Troubleshooting

No Heat...

Heat Pumps

  • Check your thermostat.
Is it set above room temperature?
Be sure the thermostat is set on the HEAT mode.
  • Make sure your furnace or air handler switch is in the ON position.
The switch is usually on the side of the furnace or air-handling unit.
If you cannot locate the switch, ask your Modern Comfort Systems technician to point out the switch to you on their next system tune-up visit.)
  • If you have oil back-up heat, make sure your oil burner switch is in the ON position.
The heat pump usually will not operate when the oil burner switch is in the off position.
The switch is usually at the top of the basement step, at a basement door or at the utility room door.
  • Check all fuses and circuit breakers.
This will be in your main electric panel box.
Circuit breakers may look like they are on. Check carefully to be sure they are not slightly tripped to the off position.
  • Check the blower door.
On newer furnaces a blower door may be removed or ajar. This may cause a switch on the door to shut down the furnace. Close the door securely to restore power.
